George Takei

Out of all the contestants George is easily the most recognisable, he is known to millions of science fiction fans around the world as the helmsman of the Starship Enterprise, Mr Sulu and more recently he has appeared in the hit show Heroes.  He is currently the second favourite to win I'm A Celebrity 2008 at odds of 6/1.

Star Trek

He first appeared in Star Trek in the second pilot -Where No Man Has Gone Before. During the filming of the second season of Star Trek he was also cast in another series called The Green Berets which meant that the producers had to create another character to make up for the missing Sulu, they created Pavel Chekov played by Walter Koenig. Takei went on to play Hikaru Sulu in the first six Star Trek Films and also in episode of Star Trek Voyager, he has also played Sulu in the fan-made Internet based series Star Trek: New Voyages.  He is not due to appear in the new Star Trek XI directed by J.J. Abrams.

Gay Marriage

In October 2005, George revealed publicly for the first time that he was gay and had been in a relationship with his partner Brad Altman for over eighteen years. In 2008 George and his partner of over became married in a civil ceremony at the Democracy Forum of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles of which George is a founder member.
